Pocket parks by the Borough

A march from London Bridge through the back streets of Borough reveals a surprising density of parks and plantings.

Sunday 9th March 2025, 1pm

Red Cross Garden – one of the first gardens purely for enjoyment

Starting beneath the Shard we head into the back streets of Borough, Leather Market, Guy’s Hospital, and Lambeth Palace.

Along the way we see that in these clean-air times, there are plenty of small spaces that are given over to greenery: parks include Tanner Street Park, Leathermarket Gardens, Guy Street Park, Kings College Memorial Park, Little Dorrit Park, Crossbones Garden of Remembrance, Red Cross Garden, Mint Street Park, Diversity Garden, Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park with the Tibetan Garden of Peace next to the Museum of War, until we reach Archbishop’s Park, and final stop at the Garden Museum cafe at St Mary’s Gardens.

Several are looked after by Bankside Open Spaces Trust bost.org.uk
