Exploring the River Crane

A riverside walk along the River Crane looking at plants from flower to root, concluding at an Exhibition by Nicki Rolls

Sunday 11th May 2025, 1pm

Footbridge over the Crane

We have invited artist Nicki Rolls (website), who draws and paints the whole plant, roots and all, to join us. Nicki has a show running in May at Richmond Lock featuring her site-specific work along the River Crane. (Later in June she has a show on Ham Lands, a place we visited last summer, here.)

The River Crane is a Site of Metropolitan Importance for its rare species and tidal habitat, and a pleasant linear park carving through Heathrow, Hounslow, Twickenham, and into the Thames at Richmond. See Crane Valley environmental management plan.

We’ll visit Crane Park, Kneller Gardens, Mereway Nature Reserve, Craneford Way, Moormead Park, Richmond Lock and Old Deer Park.
